Job summary

General Motors seeks qualified Mechanical Journeypersons to maintain and repair industrial systems and equipment in a fast-paced, safety‑driven environment. You will work across millwright, pipefitter, toolmaker, and machine repair tasks with minimal supervision.

This onsite role requires an Apprenticeship Certificate in Mechanical trade or six years of related experience; U.S. work authorization is required, and GM does not provide immigration sponsorship for this role.

Qualifications

• Completion of Apprenticeship Certificate in Mechanical trade or six years of documented experience in a mechanical trade.
• Ability to satisfactorily complete GM hiring process requirements including assessments, hair drug testing, and background check.
• At least 18 years of age and eligible to work in the United States.
• Willing to work flexible shift hours including day, afternoon, or night shifts with overtime.

Responsibilities

• Follow established safety procedures according to OSHA standards and company procedures.
• Maintain, dismantle, repair, and replace mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial machinery.
• Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair piping systems.
• Use hand or power tools for measuring, cutting, threading, bending, soldering, and installing pipes and fittings.
• Read blueprints for conveyors, robots, and other automation systems.
• Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, vertical lifts, and cranes.
• Determine loading requirements to rig equipment and material for lifting.
• Set up and operate CNC machine tools to shape parts to specifications.
• Fabricate tools and fixtures to exact specifications.
• Plan sequences of operations using blueprints or models.
• Verify finished part quality with calipers, gauges, micrometers, and dial indicators.
