Job summary

The City and Borough of Sitka is seeking a skilled Journeyman Lineman to inspect, repair, install, and maintain all classes of electric transmission and distribution lines and substations. You may supervise Apprentices and collaborate with other department staff to ensure safe, reliable operation of the utility system.

Under supervision, you will work independently on assigned tasks, perform outages investigations, and help ensure safety for the public and coworkers.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Journeyman Lineman certification or license required.
• Alaska Certificate of Fitness required before starting work.

Responsibilities

• Installs, maintains and repairs primary and secondary equipment on electric transmission, distribution and substations.
• Tests, maintains and installs duct line, cable, conduits, risers, circuit breakers, transformers and related equipment.
• Operates heavy equipment and vehicles.
• Climbs poles/towers or rides in bucket attached to truck mounted boom to access lines.
• Works in ditches, culverts, vaults and underground spaces to access lines.
• Investigates outages and performs preventative maintenance checks.
• Ensures safety of coworkers and the public.
• Performs switching on circuits for clearances and Hold Orders.
• Apprentice Lineman performs work under supervision until fully trained.
