Job summary

Alaska Power & Telephone Company is seeking a Journeyman Lineman for full-time work in Haines and Skagway. The role requires traveling across Alaska, mentoring Apprentices and safely maintaining transmission systems.

The position offers pay from $60.00 to $69.00 per hour (DOE) with a generous benefits package, sign-on bonus up to $25,000 and relocation aid up to $10,000. Candidate must pass pre-employment checks and obtain a state fitness certificate.

Qualifications

• Must have HS Diploma or GED.
• Completion of an accredited 4-year Lineman Apprenticeship.
• Hold a current Alaska certificate of fitness or be able to acquire one within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Construct, maintain and repair distribution and transmission circuits.
• Safely troubleshoot problems with electrical components from 120 V to 34,500 V.
• Properly size fuses and install transformers.
• Troubleshoot, repair and maintain overhead and underground transmission and distribution systems.
• Install, remove and read single and three phase electrical meters.
• Construct new services.
• Maintain and repair power line hardware and substation equipment.
• Carry out directives set by Power Operations Superintendent.
• Mentor and train Apprentices.
• Inspect, maintain, and operate vehicles safely.
• Must be safety conscious and participate in on-call rotation.
• Be willing to travel to various locations in Alaska.
