Job summary

Qualifications

• High School diploma or recognized equivalent and one journeyman-level craft/trade as approved by Property Services Leadership (i.e. Plumbing, Mechanical, HVAC, Structural, Instrumentation/Electronics, Refrigeration, Electronics/Fire Alarms) demonstrated by one of the following:
• Texas state license or approved equal license with two years of experience at journeyman level.
• Recognized apprentice program or trade school with two years of experience at journeyman level.
• Community college certification, or associate degree in a related field with two years of experience at journeyman level.
• NCCER training program or other UTMB-approved certification with two years of experience at journeyman level.
• Licensure/certification/degree options listed above can be substituted by 8 years of Industrial/ Heavy Commercial experience in at least one craft (Job information and references are required to validate 8 years Industrial/ Heavy Commercial experience relative to our environment).

Responsibilities

• Performs at a journeyman level in at least one craft for maintenance and repair of heavy commercial building infrastructure and equipment.
• Proactively maintains all aspects of assigned area of responsibility.
• Consults with customers on priority of work and acts as liaison between customer and Property Services (Physical Plant).
• Performs detailed inspections of equipment for proper operation and informs supervisory personnel of unusual conditions or deficiencies.
• Performs major repairs on complex systems and supporting equipment.
• Starts up, shuts down and adjusts equipment or systems per procedures.
• Performs preventative or corrective maintenance tasks and meets timelines.
• Identifies maintenance needs and performs proactive repairs before breakdown occurs.
• Trains and mentors new personnel; teaches codes and proper tool use.
• Reads and interprets blueprints/drawings for corrections when needed.
• Attends project designs, reviews, shutdowns, and commissioning; participates in meetings.
• Supports area shift coverage, on-call duties, and after-hours or extended projects.
• Participates in disaster/hurricane preparedness activities.
• Completes UTMB compliance training and attends safety meetings.
