Job summary

Goodwill Greater New York and Northern New Jersey (GWNYNJ) is seeking a dedicated DSP-Job Coach to support individuals with disabilities across NYC. You will manage a caseload, provide individualized guidance, and help participants obtain and maintain employment through in-field visits and hands-on coaching.

About This Role

Manage a caseload by providing individual assistance and guidance to individuals with disabilities, helping them obtain, train and maintain employment. The most prevalent disability group is Intellectual/Developmental Disability; others may include mental illness, visual impairment, or other conditions. At Goodwill, we support persons with Intellectual & developmental disabilities and neurodiversity (Autism Spectrum) in obtaining and maintaining employment. The DSP‑Job Coach works directly with and supports individuals and families in finding a job and career. Full‑time employment with many benefits starting at $20/hour (equivalent to $40,000/year).

  • Comfortable travelling throughout NYC and visiting multiple work sites throughout the day.
  • Enjoy teaching and encouraging others how to complete a task.
  • Patient when explaining and demonstrating tasks.
  • Willing to roll up sleeves and demonstrate proper ways to clean or stock merchandise on shelves or communicate with others.
  • Able to write clear and concise progress notes immediately after service delivery.
  • Communicate with other team members to keep everyone informed and support program success.
The Awesome Things You’ll Do
  • Maintain departmental billing efficiency standards.
  • Maintain accurate daily case‑notes, monthly summaries, SAP’s and other necessary documentation in a timely manner on the agency’s Electronic Health Record Platform (EHR).
  • Conduct site visits with participants and employers throughout NYC Region to provide support services.
  • Maintain and update key information in EHR records to ensure audit‑ready records.
  • Assist in transitioning youth from school and unemployed individuals through a formal “Discovery” to explore possible careers.
  • Work effectively with consumers to obtain/maintain employment.
  • Write clear and concise case notes and service plans promptly.
  • Cooperate with other Goodwill and non‑GW programs.
  • Build relationships with consumers, parents, therapists, group homes, and employers to facilitate positive progress toward employment goals.
  • Help consumers remove obstacles and barriers toward employment goals.
  • Engage employers to facilitate accommodations and address workplace issues for better job retention.
  • Maintain contact with consumers and employers to identify and resolve problems early, preventing job loss or program termination.
  • Use good interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible schedule and travel throughout 5 boroughs; most time is spent out in the field at multiple sites daily.
  • Assist consumers in achieving independent functioning at work.
  • Coaches are encouraged to directly assist in job development activities and efforts.
  • Additional duties as requested by Manager.
Our Must Haves
  • Minimum preferred: Associate’s degree.
  • Preferred: 1+ year of experience working with people with disabilities.
  • Graduates of specialist DSP training programs such as Educational Opportunity Center graduates may be considered.
Special Working Conditions
  • Job primarily consists of field on‑site and off‑site face‑to‑face visits with consumers.
  • Travel throughout NYC mostly on public transportation.
  • Expected to make site visits during consumer work schedules, including evenings and weekends.
