Job summary

Synechron is seeking a Java Rules Engine Engineer to design, develop, and maintain business rules and decision-engine solutions. You will work with Java-based applications, rules engines, and microservices to automate complex decisions and improve efficiency.

The role emphasizes Spring Boot/MVC/Security, REST APIs, testing, and collaboration across business analysts, architects, and developers to ensure scalable, auditable, and maintainable rule implementations.

Qualifications

• Hands-on with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, JPA/Hibernate.
• Experience designing RESTful services and microservices.
• Experience with state-management libraries such as Redux, Context API, or similar tools.
• Understanding of OOP, design patterns and software principles.
• Experience with relational DBs such as PostgreSQL/MySQL/Oracle/SQL Server.
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative workflows.
• Experience with unit/integration tests using JUnit/Mockito/Jest.

We are seeking a skilled Java Rules Engine Engineer to design, develop, and maintain business rules and decision-engine solutions. The successful candidate will work with Java-based applications, rules engines, and enterprise systems to automate complex business decisions, improve operational efficiency, and deliver scalable, reliable, and maintainable solutions.

Additional Information*

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Charlotte, NC is $120k - $130k/year & benefits (see below).

The Role

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain business rules using Java-based rules engines.
• Develop and integrate rules engine solutions with enterprise applications and microservices.
• Translate business requirements into clear, testable, and reusable rules.
• Implement decision tables, rule flows, rule templates, and rule-based workflows.
• Develop REST APIs and services for rules execution and decision management.
• Collaborate with business analysts, product owners, architects, QA engineers, and development teams.
• Analyse existing business logic and recommend opportunities for rule automation and optimization.
• Ensure rules are version-controlled, traceable, auditable, and maintainable.
• Write unit, integration, and regression tests for rules and Java applications.
• Troubleshoot rule execution, application, integration, and production issues.
• Monitor and optimize rules engine performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Support deployment of rules applications across development, testing, and production environments.
• Maintain technical documentation, rule specifications, architecture diagrams, and implementation guides.
• Participate in code reviews, technical design sessions, sprint planning, and Agile ceremonies.
• Follow security, coding, testing, and software development best practices.

Requirements:

• Hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, and JPA/Hibernate.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful web services and microservices.
• Experience with state-management libraries such as Redux, Context API, or similar tools.
• Understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and software development principles.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server.
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative source-control workflows.
• Experience writing unit and integration tests using tools such as JUnit, Mockito, Jest, or React Testing Library.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

Preferred, but not required:

• Experience with microservices architecture and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, or other messaging systems.
• Familiarity with Node.js and npm.
• Experience with Agile development methodologies.
