Job summary

Related Management Company is seeking a dependable Porter for Lake Shore Plaza in Chicago. You will keep common areas clean, assist with move-ins, and maintain high building standards while supporting front desk during breaks and helping with tours.

The role requires 1–2 years in janitorial or porter work, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and comfort with cleaning chemicals. Local 1 union benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years experience in janitor, cleaner, or porter roles.
• Must be reliable and able to handle cleaning chemicals safely.
• Must be a team player and able to work with little supervision.
• Excellent time management and strong work ethic.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for an 8-hour shift.

Responsibilities

• Sweep and maintain cleanliness of sidewalks, lobbies, and hallways.
• Empty trash, recycle, and manage spills or safety hazards promptly.
• Clean, polish, and detail floors, glass, brass, and woodwork; deep cleaning as needed.
• Maintain common areas: laundry room, fitness center, and management offices.
• Support front desk during concierge breaks and assist with move-ins and tours.
• Set up and clean shared spaces for events and gatherings; assist with logistics and cleanup.

You'll support the building from the ground up - by keeping common areas clean, assisting with move-ins, and helping maintain our high standards. Schedule

• Monday 11pm-7:30am
• Thursday 7:00am-3:30pm
• Friday 2:30pm-11pm
• Saturday 2:30-11pm
• Sunday 11:00pm-7:30am

Off Days

Tuesday and Wednesday

What You'll Do

Grounds & Common Areas

• Sweep sidewalks, terraces, lobbies, and hallways
• Empty trash and recycling bins throughout the building
• Respond quickly to spills, weather-related messes, or other safety hazards

Cleaning & Detailing

• Clean and polish floors, glass, mirrors, brass, and woodwork
• Deep clean as needed (carpet cleaning, grout scrubbing, waxing floors)
• Maintain the laundry room, fitness center, and management offices
• Report any damage or safety issues to the Resident Manager

Building Maintenance Support

• Clean stairwells, service areas, and the compactor room
• Change light bulbs and help prepare units for new residents
• Use building systems to log tasks and report ongoing issues

Resident & Concierge Support

• Cover the front desk during concierge breaks
• Monitor service doors during move-ins and deliveries
• Assist with unit inspections and ensure spaces look great for tours

Special Projects & Events

• Help set up and clean shared spaces like lounges, rooftops, and gyms
• Support building events and gatherings by helping with logistics and cleanup
• Keep shared spaces looking welcoming and refreshed

Sustainability & Safety

• Keep elevators, trash rooms, and amenity areas clean and odor-free
• Support recycling and compost programs
• Perform scent and cleanliness checks to ensure the building feels fresh
• Participate in team meetings and be open to cross-training

Compensation

• $22.82 / Hour
• Local 1 Union Benefits

Qualifications

• 1-2 years prior janitor, cleaner, or porter experience
• Must be reliable and have experience working with cleaning chemicals
• Must be a team player and be able to work with little supervision
• Excellent time management skills and work ethic needed
• Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and be able to stand for an 8 hour shift
• Light maintenance knowledge is a plus
