Job summary

Related Management Company is seeking a Janitor/Porter Associate for New York City properties. You will perform routine cleaning, maintenance, and safety checks to keep lobbies and common areas pristine.

You’ll work with the maintenance team on minor repairs, assist with move-ins, monitor spills, and help set up spaces for events. Union benefits apply; compensation is $30.77 per hour under Local 32BJ.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience in janitorial, porter, or cleaning roles is a plus.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in all seasons.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and be on your feet for most of the shift.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in cleanliness.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to keep the property clean, safe, and attractive.
• Support grounds and common areas: sweep, empty trash, respond to spills and hazards.
• Assist building maintenance: replace light bulbs and prep units for new residents.
• Provide resident and concierge support during shifts and help with move-ins and tours.
• Assist with setup and cleanup for events and activities.

Responsibilities

As a Janitor/Porter Associate at Related Management Company, your role is vital to maintaining a clean, safe, and attractive property. You will perform routine cleaning and maintenance tasks to keep the property in top condition, showing pride in your building and grounds. In this position, you’ll also have the chance to develop new skills by working closely with the maintenance team on minor repairs and preventative measures. Additionally, you'll be able to learn, practice, and apply new skills for future career growth in collaboration with your property’s leaders.

SCHEDULE:

Sunday: 5am to 1:30pm

Monday - Thursday: 7am - 3:30pm

Friday and Saturday: OFF

What You’ll Do:

Grounds & Common Areas

• Sweep sidewalks, terraces, lobbies, and hallways
• Empty trash and recycling bins throughout the building
• Respond quickly to spills, weather-related messes, or other safety hazards

Cleaning & Detailing

• Clean and polish floors, glass, mirrors, brass, and woodwork
• Deep clean as needed (carpet cleaning, grout scrubbing, waxing floors)
• Maintain the laundry room, fitness center, and management offices
• Report any damage or safety issues to the Resident Manager

Building Maintenance Support

• Clean stairwells, service areas, and the compactor room
• Change light bulbs and help prepare units for new residents
• Use building systems to log tasks and report ongoing issues

Resident & Concierge Support

• Cover the front desk during concierge breaks
• Monitor service doors during move-ins and deliveries
• Assist with unit inspections and ensure spaces look great for tours

Special Projects & Events

• Help set up and clean shared spaces like lounges, rooftops, and gyms
• Support building events and gatherings by helping with logistics and cleanup
• Keep shared spaces looking welcoming and refreshed

Sustainability & Safety

• Keep elevators, trash rooms, and amenity areas clean and odor-free
• Support recycling and compost programs
• Perform scent and cleanliness checks to ensure the building feels fresh
• Participate in team meetings and be open to cross-training

Qualifications

Compensation:

$30.77/ hourly (Full Union Rate)
