Class Definition

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: To perform cleaning, custodial, and simple maintenance work in a public building or state institution, and to do related work as required.

Supervision

Received: Duties are assigned individually in detail; work is closely supervised during execution and reviewed upon completion for efficiency and effectiveness.

Exercised: Usually none.

Examples of Work Performed

1. Cleaning floors, walls, windows, woodwork, furniture, and equipment in various facilities.
2. Cleaning plumbing fixtures.
3. Collecting and disposing of trash and garbage.
4. Moving furniture and equipment as needed.
5. Servicing water coolers and iceboxes.
6. Spraying, fumigating, or exterminating vermin and rodents as directed.
7. Providing washrooms with supplies.
8. Performing minor repairs or assisting maintenance staff.
9. Running errands.
10. Maintaining property and grounds, including lawn and garden work.
11. Operating elevators and cleaning equipment.
12. Performing related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge of cleaning and custodial methods and equipment.
• Ability to follow simple verbal instructions.
• Physical ability to perform duties, as evidenced by a physician’s certificate.
