Job summary

American Councils in Washington, DC is seeking a Program Officer to design and deliver professional and cultural itineraries for 70–120 participants yearly. You will liaise with State Department and CBM partners, ensuring milestones align with goals and budget constraints.

The role requires attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks, and strong communication across diverse groups. Some travel may be required. Join a team delivering meaningful U.S. foreign affairs exchange programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
• 4+ years of international exchange experience or 2+ years of working on the IVLP.
• Fluency with cross‑cultural communication.
• Familiarity with U.S. State Department’s foreign policy priorities.
• Experience with international exchange program design and implementation for individuals and groups.
• Effective oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with State Department program managers and IVLP stakeholders to conceptualize and implement projects.
• Design and coordinate programs for groups of foreign professionals, including itineraries and visits.
• Work with CBM organizations to coordinate national itineraries.
• Prepare program materials in line with SOPs and internal controls.
• Supervise coordinators’ activities to ensure timely planning, budgeting, and reporting.
• Assist with the program’s social media content.
