Overview

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an ITS/Traffic Engineering Inter n to join our Edison, New Jersey office.

Your role

• Assist with the preparation of engineering plans, drawings, and supporting documentation related to Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) design and traffic engineering projects.
• Support engineering investigations, data collection efforts, and planning activities for projects with clearly defined objectives under the guidance of experienced team members.
• Assist in preparing technical memoranda, data summaries, and sections of engineering reports while developing technical writing skills through mentorship and review.
• Observe and support construction engineering activities, including reviewing project documentation, tracking construction progress, and learning quality assurance and quality control processes under the supervision of experienced engineers.
• Research and compile information related to design alternatives, site conditions, applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Assist with the preliminary estimates for labor, materials, and project costs.
• Participate in quality control activities by checking calculations, verifying data, and drawings with guidance from senior staff.
• Participate in field visits and site observations to gain practical experience with transportation infrastructure design and construction activities.

About you

• EXPERIENCE: No experience is generally required if accepted into an Associate's or Bachelor's degree program in a related technical field.
• EDUCATION: Must have completed 90 hours towards a civil engineering degree from an ABET accredited program by the start of the internship ( Summer 2027 ).
• SPECIAL SKILLS: Basic computer skills required to enter data into spreadsheets or databases. Math skills to perform simple calculations; willingness to learn. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Experience with AutoCAD, OpenRoads Designer, or MicroStation (preferred).

Additional information

Expected compensation range is between $ 25 - $ 31 hourly depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
