Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Raleigh, NC seeks an ITS/Traffic Engineering Intern to assist with design and analysis for ITS and traffic projects. You will contribute to plan development, traffic signal design, fiber routing, and safety studies, while gaining exposure to site conditions and regulatory requirements.

The role emphasizes learning through supervision, with opportunities for early involvement in reports, cost estimates, and specifications, developed within a collaborative engineering team.

Qualifications

• Must have completed 60 hours toward a civil engineering degree from an ABET accredited program by the start of the internship (Spring 2027).
• No experience is generally required if accepted into an Associate's or Bachelor's degree program in a related technical field.
• Basic computer skills to enter data into spreadsheets or databases; math skills for simple calculations; willingness to learn.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop plans and drawings for ITS and Traffic design, including traffic signal design and fiber optic routing.
• Organize ITS and Traffic engineering investigations, planning and analysis with defined scope.
• Prepare straightforward technical reports under supervision; outline and use reference materials.
• Research feasibility of design approaches, site conditions, regulations, and emerging technologies.
• Develop specifications and permit applications; estimate man-hours, costs and materials.
