Position Summary The IT Specialist provides comprehensive technical support and technology services for the department, serving as a primary resource for help desk operations, classroom technology, and audiovisual systems. This position independently diagnoses and resolves technical issues, supports faculty, staff, students, and departmental users, and ensures reliable technology operations across instructional and administrative environments. Due to the natural flux of UGA's staff, faculty, and students, the applicant must be self-motivated and proactive in identifying and solving issues related to the spaces used by the people we support. The role leads classroom and A/V technology management, coordinates technology projects and equipment lifecycle planning, develops recommendations for technology solutions and standards, and provides guidance and training to support effective service delivery and a high level of customer support.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Demonstrates technical knowledge and proficiency in information technology support acquired through education, training, certifications, and/or relevant professional experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively and provide responsive support in fast-paced, time-sensitive environments.
  • Proven ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve issues involving computer hardware, software, network connectivity, and related technology systems.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Windows and Apple operating systems, computer hardware, software applications, and audiovisual technologies, including presentation, conferencing, and control systems.
  • Demonstrates the ability to learn quickly.

Hardware and Software Support

Advise on the purchase, configuration, maintenance, and support of Warnell workstations, printers, and related software. Support includes troubleshooting, basic hardware repair, and coordinating with manufacturers to initiate warranty requests.

Oversee Classroom and Lab Technology Education

Conduct independent periodic trainings for faculty and staff on classroom and lab technology. Monitor classrooms and computer labs; maintain classroom technology, including computers and audiovisual systems; and provide timely support to instructors and students. Conduct periodic training for faculty and staff on classroom and lab technology.

Create and maintain knowledge base documentation and instructional materials

Document current IT procedures and create, update, and maintain instructional materials for classroom equipment, checkout technology, and departmental hardware and software.

Create and maintain a record keeping system in order to track inventory and keep up with all of Warnell's IT equipment location. This includes all Warnell inventoried items that could be checked out by Warnell Faculty and Staff. This should be accurate and up to date at all times.

Facilitate innovation and development

Stay current on instructional technology, UGA policies and procedures, and modern teaching methods. Advise and collaborate on equipping Warnell classrooms with current technologies. Perform other related duties as assigned.
