Job summary

The Louisiana Office of Technology Services (OTS) in Baton Rouge is advertising an IT Statewide Engineer 1-3 in the Data Center Operations Section. This role provides subject-matter expertise in storage, backup, and recovery, with focus on SAN/NAS, iSCSI/FC networks, and vendor-enabled solutions.

Key duties include mentoring engineers, leading software installations and configurations, and coordinating with vendors to ensure high availability and performance of storage services.

Qualifications

• Five years of information technology or administrative services experience; OR six years of full-time work experience in any field plus three years of information technology or administrative services experience.
• An associate's degree in information technology plus three years of information technology or administrative services experience.
• A bachelor’s degree plus three years of information technology or administrative services experience.
• A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in an information technology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, or business analytics field plus two years of information technology or administrative services experience.
• A master’s degree plus two years of information technology or administrative services experience.
• EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. Maximum substitution is 120 semester hours (four years).
• NOTE: A certification in an approved area may be substituted for education/experience at hire or promotion from a Certificate of Eligibles.

Responsibilities

• Mentor engineers in day-to-day administration and maintenance of SAN/NAS, iSCSI/FC switch fabric networks, and Backup/Recovery.
• Lead installation, maintenance, and modification of vendor-supplied software for Backup/Recovery, SAN/NAS, and switch configuration and management.
• Design work and specifications; consult with vendors on software/hardware problems and system performance.
• Advise end-users and admins; provide documentation, instruction, problem analysis and education for complex software areas.
• Act as consultant to lower-level engineers during storage migration projects; create Backup/Recovery jobs for customer RPOs/RTOs.
• Provide root-cause analysis for incidents; follow up with vendors for permanent solutions.
