Job summary

The State of California is seeking an Information Technology Specialist I to provide technical and administrative services for enterprise storage, backup, SAN and cloud deployments. You will work independently on large, complex projects, installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting infrastructure for DOJ storage and related systems.

Job description

Under the general supervision of the Information Technology Manger I (ITM I), the incumbent provides technical and administrative services for the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Enterprise-level storage, backup, Storage Area Network (SAN) and cloud tenant implementations. The incumbent works independently as a high-level technical specialist on larger and more complex projects related to enterprise storage (block, object, and NAS), backup and SAN solutions. The incumbent works with other DOJ service areas and customers to help with the analysis of product specifications and business and technical requirements to participate in the development and implementation of enterprise-level storage, backup, and SAN infrastructure at DOJ. This includes the installation, configuration, maintenance, problem resolution and troubleshooting of infrastructure for DOJ. The incumbent supports the DOJ Cloud Infrastructure Support Team (CIST) to help setup, manage, and monitor Cloud tenants and storage for DOJ teams and customers as needed.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Perform high-level technical tasks in engineering and support of the following disciplines within the Strategic Transport & Technology Services Branch lines of business and serve as a high-level technical specialist in:
  • Block and NAS Enterprise level storage (on-premises), backup (on-premises), and Fibre Channel Storage Area Networks (SAN) switches.
  • Collaborating with other DOJ teams to help implement Storage, backup, and SAN solutions for various DOJ projects.
  • Managing, modifying, installing, testing, and maintaining all DOJ backup and SAN related hardware and software.
  • Helping to implement data recovery solutions for 24x7 management and support of DOJ’s backup, SAN and Disaster Recovery (DR) systems and associated recovery plans.
  • Managing, administering, provisioning, and configuring SAN, Backups, and storage infrastructure.
  • Performing backups and restores.
  • Analyzing, troubleshooting and fixing technical issues as they arise for the department.
  • Monitoring and tuning SAN, storage, and backup performance and operations to ensure that they are meeting DOJ standards and expectations.
  • Administering, monitoring, managing, and troubleshooting cloud tenant solutions.
  • Providing consulting and assistance on some of the department’s technical projects.
  • Documenting processes and ad hoc reporting.
  • Act with high-level skills on DOJ headquarters, hub site and field office SAN infrastructure.
  • High-level knowledge in O365/Microsoft Office
  • Knowledgeable in vSphere 7.0/8.0, TCP/IP, firewall rules, DMZ, Active Directory, Windows 2022 system administration.
