Department Summary The Ohio University Information Security Office strives to educate and empower the University community to appropriately manage risks and protect OHIO’s information and systems. This effort is facilitated through policies, standards, an information security risk management program, as well as other tools and guidance that are provided to the University community. This modern approach creates a safe computing environment in which the university community can teach, learn, and conduct research.
This role is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations for most Information Security Office functions.
Responsibilities include design, evaluation, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of security systems to ensure the protection of University data from unwarranted access and changes.
Participate in the development of security practices, policies, and strategies to mitigate risk and the prevention, detection and resolution of security incidents for the university community’s computing infrastructure including networks, servers, databases, applications, systems and end user devices.
This role promotes and delivers security-related consultation, training, documentation, and awareness while also providing guidance and work direction to other groups performing security-related tasks.
Provides security engineering, risk management, operational support, and consultation.
Positions are centrally located and serve University-wide systems.
Provides professional expertise to the University community. Serves as a resource and guide to others in the department and/or university. Completes operational tasks essential for the daily functioning of the University. Additionally, contributes to larger projects or initiatives that align with department or University goals, often collaborating across teams.
Supervisory Responsibilities May assist in mentoring or training new employees.
Fiscal Responsibilities No budgetary responsibility. May be responsible for validating transactions.
Problem Solving Handles a variety of problems with some independence.
Independence of Action Some supervision; able to work independently on routine tasks.
Communication and Collaboration Collaborates with team members and shares knowledge.
This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 3-5 years of related professional experience, or equivalent education and experience.
CISSP or equivalent IT Security Certification.
The target salary range is $68,299 to $92,205 commensurate with the selected candidate’s education and experience while considering internal equity.
