Job description

We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join a growing Managed Services team on Long Island. The role has hybrid capabilities but must have the ability to travel to client sites throughout Long Island and NYC as needed.

This is a senior-level engineering role responsible for designing, implementing, and leading complex infrastructure projects across both Microsoft Azure and on-premises environments for a diverse client base. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader with deep expertise in cloud technologies, server infrastructure, networking, virtualization, and security.

Key Responsibilities

Azure Infrastructure & Cloud Solutions

• Design, deploy, and support Microsoft Azure environments.
• Lead Azure migrations including servers, applications, and storage.
• Implement and manage:
• Azure Security Center / Defender
• Develop infrastructure-as-code and automation solutions where applicable.
• Architect hybrid cloud environments integrating Azure with on-prem systems.
• Design and implement Windows Server environments.
• Lead server refreshes, migrations, and infrastructure modernization projects.
• Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and file services.
• Support VMware and/or Hyper-V virtualization platforms.
• Deploy and maintain enterprise storage and backup solutions.
• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and performance issues.

Networking & Security

• Configure and troubleshoot firewalls, switches, and VPN technologies.
• Manage network segmentation and security best practices.
• Participate in security remediation projects and vulnerability mitigation.
• Implement MFA, conditional access policies, and cybersecurity controls.
• Support compliance-focused infrastructure initiatives.
• Serve as lead engineer for complex client projects.
• Create technical documentation, project plans, and implementation procedures.
• Conduct client-facing meetings to gather requirements and present solutions.
• Coordinate with project managers to ensure projects remain on time and within scope.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to Tier II/Tier III engineers.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of IT Infrastructure Engineering experience.
• 3+ years working in a Managed Services Provider (MSP)
• Ability to travel to clients throughout Long Island and NYC as needed.
• Strong experience with Microsoft Azure, Windows Server 2016/2019/2022, Active Directory, VMware vSphere and/or Hyper-V, Microsoft 365
• Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, switching, VPNs)
• Enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions
• Experience leading infrastructure and cloud migration projects.
• Excellent client communication and documentation skills.
