Job summary

Advanced Operations Partners is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to serve as the lead technical resource on complex client technology projects—from discovery through handoff, including testing, documentation, and managed services transition.

This role requires independent ownership of technical outcomes, proactive risk identification, and clear, business-minded communication with clients. Remote-based, with client-site work when hands-on activities are required.

Qualifications

• Significant hands-on experience delivering IT infrastructure projects.
• Experience independently leading complex technical projects.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID/AD and networking.
• Experience with migrations and major infrastructure upgrades.
• Ability to travel to client locations as required.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client is hiring a Senior Project Engineer to serve as the lead technical resource on complex client technology projects - from discovery and planning through implementation, testing, documentation, and managed services handoff.

This is not a task-completion role. The right person independently owns the technical outcome of their projects: assessing environments, developing implementation approaches, identifying risks before they become problems, and communicating clearly with clients throughout.

Remote-based. Client-site work required when hands-on project activities are needed.

Role Description

• Own the technical delivery of complex client projects from discovery through handoff
• Perform technical discovery, assess client environments, and translate scope into detailed implementation plans
• Identify requirements, dependencies, risks, and gaps before implementation begins
• Design and implement solutions across Microsoft cloud, infrastructure, networking, virtualization, backup, and security
• Lead migrations, upgrades, deployments, and infrastructure modernization projects
• Develop and execute implementation, testing, cutover, rollback, and validation plans
• Partner with Project Managers to keep deliverables aligned with scope, timelines, and client expectations
• Lead client-facing technical conversations; communicate progress and risks in clear business terms
• Troubleshoot complex issues and bring forward practical solutions
• Produce accurate project documentation; ensure clean transition to Managed Services and Support
• Serve as a technical escalation resource and mentor for Project Engineers

Technology Experience Requirements

Broad technical breadth and sound judgment valued over deep expertise in a single platform:

• VMware, Hyper-V, servers, storage, backup, disaster recovery, endpoint management
• Networking, switching, routing, wireless, firewalls, VPNs, identity and access management
• Email, file, cloud, and infrastructure migrations; security-related infrastructure projects

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Significant hands-on experience delivering IT infrastructure projects in an MSP or client-services environment
• Demonstrated experience independently leading complex technical projects
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID/Active Directory, Windows Server, networking, virtualization, backup, and security
• Experience performing migrations and major infrastructure upgrades
• Ability to assess an environment and determine an appropriate technical path forward
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and client-facing communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with attention to detail
• Ability to travel to client locations as required

Preferred Background and Experience

• Prior MSP experience
• Experience across multiple client environments and industries
• Microsoft, VMware, networking, or security certifications
• Experience with PSA and project-management platforms
• Experience developing scopes, project plans, and implementation documentation
• Experience supporting technical discovery and solution validation during the quoting process
