The City of Houston is seeking an IT Professional - Applications to support critical business applications from our Enterprise Application Services division. Posting 39436 places you at 611 Walker St., Houston, TX, with standard Monday–Friday hours.

You will troubleshoot, develop interfaces, and coordinate changes across teams. You should have strong .NET skills including VB.NET and C#, plus experience with Rest API, Web Services, XML, HTML, and CSS.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS or closely related field.
• Information systems certifications may substitute for education or experience.
• Related Information Systems experience may be substituted year-for-year.

Responsibilities

• Provide production support for business-critical applications, including proactive system monitoring, troubleshooting, and rapid resolution of critical incidents.
• Develop and troubleshoot custom applications and interfaces using programming languages within the .NET technology stack.
• Serve as the primary liaison to business and functional teams, ensuring clear communication and alignment.
• Work at the highest technical level across all phases of application systems analysis and support.

Description Of Duties / Essential Functions

Provide production support for business-critical applications, including proactive system monitoring, troubleshooting, and rapid resolution of critical incidents. Develop and troubleshoot custom applications and interfaces using programming languages within the .NET technology stack. Serve as the primary liaison to business and functional teams, ensuring clear communication and alignment.

Work at the highest technical level across all phases of application systems analysis and support. Coordinate meetings and requirements‑gathering sessions for support activities and enhancement requests, ensuring full understanding, documentation, communication, and execution of customer business needs. Oversee change management and release processes.

Provide mentoring and training to team members as needed. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and concisely. Perform a variety of IT development, management, and support tasks for assigned departments or divisions under the direction of the IT Lead.

Experience /Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience in Microsoft SQL database, report development and .NET technologies
• One or more years of Experience in Visual Studio and DevOps

WORKING CONDITIONS

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field.

Information systems-specific technical certifications may be substituted for 1 year of either the education or the experience requirement, as applicable.

Related professional Information Systems experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Experience

At least five (5) years of technology experience supporting IT applications.

A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field may be substituted for two years of the experience requirement

Preference Will Be Given To Candidates With

• At least 2 years of experience in Microsoft SQL database, report development and .NET technologies
