Job summary

King County Department of Information Technology (KCIT) in Washington state seeks an accomplished IT Program/Project Manager to lead the PMO, oversee a portfolio of projects, and mentor PMs. The role requires strong governance, cross-functional collaboration, and vendor management in a hybrid work environment.

You will drive delivery excellence, align IT initiatives with county priorities, and advance project management maturity across the organization.

Qualifications

• 5+ years managing IT Program/Project Managers as direct reports.
• 7+ years as an IT Project/Program Manager (or equivalent) leading IT projects.
• Advanced knowledge of project management principles and techniques.
• Experience with waterfall, Agile/Scrum, and hybrid delivery models.
• Experience leading vendor sourcing, negotiation, contracting and vendor performance.
• Ability to build strong relationships with leaders and stakeholders.
• Ability to manage competing work plans and risks.
• Collaborative work style with clear communication.
• Cross-functional leadership and customer-service focus.
• Strong people management and coaching skills.
• Ability to read situations quickly and resolve conflicts with facts.

Responsibilities

• Oversee enterprise project delivery and governance in KCIT.
• Mentor and develop IT project managers and PMO staff.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams to align with business priorities.
• Manage vendor negotiations, contracts, and performance.
• Monitor KPIs and drive continuous improvement in portfolio delivery.
• Provide escalation and risk mitigation for complex programs.
• Support development of the Project Management Delivery Framework.
