PenFed Credit Union in Tysons, VA (onsite), with locations in Omaha and San Antonio, seeks an IT Manager for Core Engineering Applications to lead COBOL/JCL/Mainframe teams and oversee legacy system stability. This role drives delivery, production support, and key integrations with Mule and Salesforce while ensuring governance, planning, and reporting.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in mainframe environments, 3–5 years of leadership, strong communication, and a track record of aligning IT work

Qualifications

• 8+ years building/supporting COBOL/JCL/Easytrieve; 3–5 years managing teams.
• Bachelor's degree in CS/MIS/related field or equivalent.
• Hands-on COBOL/JCL/Easytrieve/REXX; Assembler knowledge a plus.
• Familiar with SDLC, change/release management, observability, and incident mgmt.
• Experience partnering with Mule/Salesforce teams for integrations.

Responsabilités

• Lead and mentor programmers delivering legacy and modernized solutions.
• Own reliability, performance, change control, and incident management for mainframe apps.
• Plan integrations with Mule and Salesforce; coordinate data flows and runbooks.
• Engage stakeholders to clarify requirements and secure outcomes.
• Provide status on milestones, risks, issues, and accomplishments to IT leadership.
• Promote modernization while preserving system stability.
• Oversee end-to-end lifecycle from planning to closure with traceability.
