Job summary

PenFed Credit Union seeks a seasoned Manager IT, Core Engineering Applications to lead a team of COBOL/JCL programmers across legacy and modernized systems. You will own delivery, production support, and high-availability performance of critical workloads, while driving integrations with Mule and Salesforce platforms and clear stakeholder communications.

Responsibilities include guiding architecture, ensuring security and compliance, and mentoring staff to foster a culture of modernization

Qualifications

• 8+ years writing/supporting COBOL, JCL, Easytrieve; 3–5 years managing teams.
• Extensive hands-on experience with COBOL, JCL, Easytrieve, and REXX; Assembler knowledge a plus.
• Strong understanding of datasets/file structures, batch scheduling, utilities, and job control.
• Experience partnering with Mule and Salesforce teams on integrations and runs.
• Experience with SDLC, change/release management, observability, and incident management.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and manage programmers delivering design, development, implementation, and production support for legacy and modernization.
• Own reliability, performance, change control, and incident management for mainframe applications, jobs, datasets, and integrations.
• Coordinate with managers and architects for Mule and Salesforce to plan integrations, data flows, and runbooks.
• Engage business and IT stakeholders to align scope, clarify requirements, and secure outcomes.
• Provide status on milestones, risks, issues, and accomplishments for IT leadership and partners.
• Ensure alignment with IT standards, security policies, and audit/compliance requirements.
