The Wisconsin Historical Society is seeking a Tier 2 IT Support Technician to join its IT Directorate statewide. You will deliver elevated desktop and device support across a diverse ecosystem including POS, field mapping equipment, and library/archive systems.

Under general supervision of the IT Director, this position serves as the agency’s primary (Tier 2) advanced desktop and related technology support technician. Independently driven, this role delivers elevated, non-routine technical problem resolution, hands‑on support, and technical consulting across a diverse, specialized ecosystem. This spans standard desktops, laptops, mobile devices, field peripherals, retail point‑of‑sale (POS) systems, and both cloud‑hosted and on‑premises software deployed across research libraries, archives, historic sites, and agency administrative facilities statewide. This role acts as the dedicated agency liaison, technical partner, and primary escalation point for both the Department of Administration (DOA) Helpdesk and DOA Client Engineering teams on complex technical incidents and agency‑specific cultural heritage and library systems.
Beyond advanced endpoint support, this position drives core operational lifecycle and technology management. Working closely alongside the User Security & Compliance Coordinator, the Inventory & Solutions Support technician coordinates user provisioning and deprovisioning, manages IT access lifecycles, serves as an operational backup for user security permissions, and helps govern software licensing compliance and seat counts. The role is also responsible for administering the agency’s Mobile Device Management (MDM) platform used for specialized agency technologies (e.g., retail POS, ticketing systems, archeology field mapping equipment), leads technology acquisition advisory and procurement workflows, establishes workstation baseline configurations, supports unique field mapping and archive‑specific systems, and directs the day‑to‑day technical tasks of student work‑study staff.
The salary will be between $30.76 - $35.00 per hour plus excellent benefits. Pay on appointment for current or former state employees may vary according to the applicable pay provisions found in the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan. This position is in pay schedule 07, range 34. The classification for this position is IS Technical Services Senior. A 12‑month probationary period will be required.
