Job summary

Selective Insurance offers the Ignite internship program for Summer 2026 in a 11-week, full-time format designed to show how IT intersects with insurance. The hybrid role is open to current college students, ideally juniors or seniors majoring in Computer Science or related fields, within commuting distance of Charlotte, NC or Hartford, CT.

You will develop, test, and maintain underwriting software, write clean code, and participate in unit tests and code reviews while collaborating with senior

Qualifications

• Must be a current college student majoring in Computer Science or a related field.
• Be someone who takes ownership over work, has the ability to self-motivate and executes on delegated tasks.
• Demonstrates an interest in learning about the insurance industry.
• College credit can be earned depending on your institution’s requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing, testing, and maintaining software solutions for underwriting.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code using various technologies.
• Create and execute unit test cases to ensure the quality and reliability of the code.
• Debug and troubleshoot software issues under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to discussions on software design and architecture.
• Collaborate effectively with team members and communicate clearly to support business processes and resolve issues.
• Work cross-functionally with peers and leaders to complete an Action Learning Project.
