Title: IT Field Network Technician

Type: Contract to Hire

Pay: Hourly

Travel: 50%, company truck provided.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated IT Field Network Technician to join our IT Field Network EOR & Midland group based in Mentone, Texas. This hands-on, tech-savvy role requires a self-starter to serve as a first responder “Smart Hands” technician, providing on-site support for network equipment, radios, field sensors, automation devices, and minor electrical troubleshooting. The technician will work closely with IT, SCADA, and field operations teams to maintain uptime, troubleshoot critical field systems, and ensure reliable communications in remote environments.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as first-line support for field IT infrastructure, including network routers, switches, radios, cellular modems, and wireless bridges.
Respond to real-time outages or performance issues involving communications, automation, or control systems.
Perform basic installation, configuration, and maintenance of network equipment and radio links.
Troubleshoot power issues, low-voltage electrical connections, and basic I/O wiring in coordination with automation or SCADA technicians.
Conduct physical inspections of field cabinets, network enclosures, RTUs/PLCs, and antennas.
Assist in deploying and upgrading edge devices, field PCs, and industrial sensors under the direction of senior IT or automation staff.
Document issues, changes, and observations using company ticketing or asset management systems.
Maintain tools, test gear, and safety equipment in field-ready condition.
Work independently in remote locations, often in harsh environments, with a strong focus on safety and situational awareness.

Technical Skills

Basic knowledge of networking fundamentals: IP addressing, subnets, routing, and wireless networking.
Experience or exposure to:
Understanding of low-voltage DC circuits, grounding, fusing, and connectors.
Ability to read basic wiring diagrams or P&IDs is a plus.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Networking, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
1+ years of experience in IT support, preferably in field or industrial environments.
Familiarity with network equipment and industrial communication systems.
Comfortable working in remote and physically demanding environments, with adherence to safety protocols.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or in a team.
Excellent communication skills to coordinate with IT, SCADA, and field operations teams.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to remote field locations as needed.
