Job summary

Skokie Public Library in Skokie, IL is seeking an IT Assistant Manager to provide technical leadership for our network, servers, and virtual environments while mentoring a small team of IT Specialists.

You will design, maintain, and improve systems, from wired and wireless networking to security, backup, and core infrastructure services. You’ll collaborate with staff and vendors, lead complex projects, and step in for the Information Technology Manager when needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
• 3+ years of experience supporting enterprise network and infrastructure environments.
• 1+ year in a supervisory or lead role.

Responsibilities

• Design, administer, and optimize wired and wireless network infrastructure.
• Manage firewalls, security controls, VPNs, authentication, and remote access.
• Administer Unix/Linux and Windows server environments, virtualization, and storage.
• Monitor performance, capacity, security, and availability; lead maintenance and upgrades.
• Support Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Entra ID, and related cloud services.
• Lead technology projects and collaborate with staff, vendors, and stakeholders.
• Respond to incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes.
• Mentor IT Specialists and assist with budgeting, standards, and operations.
