Job summary

The Maintenance Technician at The Nature Conservancy's Palmyra Preserve supports upkeep, construction, maintenance, and repairs of facilities and equipment, including a PV grid and battery/generator backup. The role requires hands-on preventive maintenance experience and ability to perform physical work in remote on-island conditions.

Board and lodging are provided while on-site, and the candidate should have a valid health, tetanus, and CPR/first aid credentials or be able to obtain them.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with 4 years of facilities/equipment maintenance experience.
• Experience operating and repairing equipment (lawn mower, tractor, backhoe, etc.).
• Experience with corrective and preventive maintenance of mechanical systems.
• Experience with water/waste or energy systems, preferably PV, battery, diesel.
• Proficient with MS Word and Excel for reports and inventories.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in challenging conditions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair facilities and equipment across the preserve.
• Monitor and maintain a hybrid solar/battery/diesel energy microgrid.
• Track parts and materials inventory using Excel.
• Perform daily cleaning and general maintenance tasks.
• Assist with visitor and research support as needed.
