Job summary

The Nature Conservancy seeks a Maintenance Technician for Palmyra Preserve to upkeep and repair facilities and equipment across island assets, including a solar/diesel hybrid microgrid. You will support operations, handle preventive maintenance, and contribute to field research and visitor services.

The role requires hands-on skills in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and carpentry, plus able to lift 50 pounds and work in remote conditions; passport and health clearance may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 4 years' direct experience maintaining facilities or equipment.
• Experience operating and/or repairing various types of equipment and machinery.
• Experience performing corrective and preventative maintenance of mechanical equipment and engines.
• Experience with basic maintenance of water and waste systems or energy systems, preferably photovoltaic, battery storage and diesel generators.
• Proficient in MS Word and Excel for reports and inventories.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair facilities and equipment across island assets including buildings, roads, runway, and utilities.
• Monitor renewable energy microgrid (solar, battery storage, diesel generator) and track inventory.
• Prepare reports and inventories using Excel; daily cleaning and maintenance of facilities.
• Support visitor and research trips and general operations.
