Job summary

The Nature Conservancy’s Palmyra Preserve seeks a seasoned Preserve Manager to lead remote operations, supervise seasonal staff and volunteers, and safeguard facilities and equipment on a remote island.

Reporting to the Field Operations Manager in Hawaii, the PM will oversee generators, marina, photovoltaic systems, housing services, and safety, while building strong partnerships with staff, researchers, and donors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ experience in facilities management and operations or equivalent
• 1 year experience in a confined community such as aboard a ship, field camp, or remote field station
• Demonstrated ability to supervise staff and manage performance
• Experience overseeing construction or maintenance of a facility and knowledge of engines, generators, water systems, hydraulics, refrigeration, energy systems (PV/battery)
• Experience overseeing food preparation, housekeeping, and inventory control
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical work
• Proficient in MS Word and Excel for reports and inventories
• Current First Aid/CPR certification

Responsibilities

• Oversee overall management and safety of Preserve operations and staff
• Supervise seasonal staff and volunteers
• Maintain facilities and equipment including generators, marina, photovoltaic systems
• Ensure safety, security, and compliance with Aut Safety Program and vehicle use rules
• Coordinate food preparation, housekeeping, and inventory control
• Report to Field Operations Manager based in Hawaii
