Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Midland, Texas is seeking an Iron Technician I to assemble and test mechanical components, handling the full flow from intake to verification.

The role requires hands-on use of tools and adherence to SOPs, with opportunities to grow through NDT and teardown trainee activities. The position features a 10 days on, 4 days off schedule; evening shift 6:00 PM–2:00 AM, with a shift premium and potential overtime.

Qualifications

• Three to six months related experience and/or training is desired but not required.
• Ability to operate hand tools such as hammers and screwdrivers.
• Working knowledge of oil and gas equipment.
• Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for disassembly/assembly processes.

Responsibilities

• Process incoming iron starts to finish, accept equipment from delivery and recertify, load for delivery, complete paperwork, perform quality checks, and manage inventory.
• Assist Iron Technicians during disassembly phases.
• Clean, strip and inspect flow control components.
• Prepare flow control products for Gauging, Ultrasonic, and MPI inspections.
• Demonstrate disassembly of flow control products per SOP.
• Identify SPM and Customer product.
• Assemble flow control products.
• Nondestructive Testing Trainee (NDT Trainee) and manifold tear-down/rebuild trainee activities.
• Demonstrate proficiency with the SPM AMP System.
• Monitor daily work activities to ensure requirements are met.

Additional Information

• Relocation assistance is NOT available for this position.
• Starting Pay: $23.00, additional based on experience
• Will receive a shift premium
• Schedule: 10 days on, 4 days off, 6:00 PM – 2:00 AM, Currently working 6:00 PM – 5:00 AM
• Overtime based on business need, weekends as needed

What You Will Do

• Process incoming iron starts to finish. Able to accept equipment from delivery, recertify equipment, load equipment for delivery, complete all associate paperwork, perform quality check, and manage inventory (without supervision)
• Assists Iron Technicians during the disassembling phase
• Clean, strip and inspect all required flow control components
• Prepare flow control products for Gauging, Ultra Sonic, and MPI inspections
• Ability to demonstrate the disassemble of flow control products per Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
• Ability to identify SPM and Customer product
• Ability to assemble flow control product
• Nondestructive Testing Trainee (NDT Trainee)
• Manifold tear down/rebuild trainee
• Demonstrates computer skills for the SPM AMP System
• Inventory Incoming Iron
• Provides proper care and maintenance of all shop tools, equipment, and work area
• Monitors daily work activities to ensure requirements are met
• Performs other routine duties as assigned

What You Will Have

• Three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is desired but not required
• Demonstrate consistency, accountability, reliability, and solid work ethic
• Ability to operate hand tools such as hammers and screw drivers
• Working knowledge of oil and gas equipment

Physical Demands

• Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear
• Required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
• Must be able to wear protective footwear and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by the department

Work Environment

• Regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles
• Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions
• Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and vibration
• Noise Level: Moderate

Summary Pay Range

$23.00 - $30.75
