ABB is seeking a Manufacturing Unit Manager to lead production, budget management, and continuous improvement in a manufacturing setting in the United States/PR region. The role reports to the Manufacturing Unit Manager and focuses on delivering cost-effective production aligned with demand, quality, and planning targets.

Qualifications

  • BS in Industrial Engineering or similar field from PR/US.
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in procurement/logistics management or similar in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Oracle, and related tools.
  • Experience presenting to managers and generating reports.
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate work, train and counsel staff.
  • Compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001/50001, VPP and related HR policies.

  • Develops and drives programs and metrics to achieve top operational performance while optimizing working capital.
  • Leads initiatives to reduce non-value-added costs, improve on-time delivery, and improve yields.

  • Oversees creation of manufacturing subcontracts and manages subcontractors with Supply Chain involvement.
  • Supports Sales during customer visits to showcase manufacturing capabilities.
  • Collaborates with Operational Excellence to apply lean principles in production.

Summary

Ensures efficient and cost-effective production results that meet order demand, specifications, quality, and planning targets through the coordination and management of plant equipment, personnel, and production processes (quantity, quality, budgeted costs, and proper productivity level).

Core responsibilities
  • Prepares annual production budget, oversees progress, and determines actions to cost issues as necessary in order to manage operations within the budget and resources.
  • Develops programs, projects, goals, and metrics to lead the organization to the highest level of operational performance while optimizing working capital throughout Operations.
  • Develops and executes plans to reduce non-value-added costs, increase revenues, and delight customers by delivering products on time with high factory and supplier yields and decreasing product field failure rates.
  • Ensures that Four Quadrants (4Q) program training and methods are implemented in the organization.
  • Oversees the creation of manufacturing subcontracts and manages the subcontractor jointly with other involved disciplines, including Supply Chain Management (e.g., subcontract employees are provided guidance on health and safety requirements and work practices, and issued permits to work).
  • Provides support to the Sales team, as required, during customer visits to explain the capabilities of the manufacturing facilities.
  • Collaborates with Operational Excellence teams to integrate lean manufacturing principles into production processes.
Requirements

  • BS in Industrial Engineers or similar field of Engineering by an educational institution from PR/US.
  • Minimum 12 years of experience as an Procurement and Logistics Manager, Engineering Manager or similar management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • PC knowledge. Proficiency in: MS Office, Oracle, etc.
  • Experience working with managers, making presentations and reports.
  • Ability to supervise the work of others including coordinating, assigning, monitoring and evaluation work; training, counseling, and disciplining.
  • Comply with the rules, practices and regulations established by Quality, including ISO 9001; HSE, including ISO 14001, 50001, VPP; and Human Resources, the Employee Manual, the Assistance Policy, the Code of Conduct, among other.
