Job summary

Top AmLaw 50 IP firm is seeking a Patent Agent to join their Intellectual Property – Patents Practice in a hybrid role. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics and 2+ years of patent experience.

You will collaborate with inventors and attorneys on patent filings in emerging technologies. Experience in data science, machine learning, AI, wireless, sensors, semiconductors, IoT, optics or related fields is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics with an excellent academic record.
• 2+ years of substantive experience in patent preparation and prosecution.
• Experience in data science, machine learning, AI, wireless communications, sensors, semiconductors, IoT, optics or related fields is advantageous.
• Working proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and writing skills with attention to technical detail.

Responsibilities

• Work with inventors and attorneys to prepare and prosecute patent applications in emerging technology areas.
• Identify inventions through technical discussions with inventors.
• Perform novelty and clearance searches to delineate inventions from existing technologies.
• Draft comprehensive patent applications and negotiate the scope of patent rights with the USPTO.
• Prepare reports and support documentation for patent portfolio management.
