Profile

The New York City office of a BCG Attorney Search Top Ranked Law Firm is seeking an IP Patent Agent with 3+ years of experience. The candidate will be responsible for:

1. Preparing draft patent applications incorporating scientific aspects of inventions.
2. Drafting responses to communications from U.S. and foreign patent offices regarding factual and scientific matters.
3. Evaluating and reporting on technological and scientific aspects of inventions.
4. Investigating general and specific technologies as needed.
5. Discussing scientific aspects of inventions with clients and inventors.
6. Identifying and analyzing complex patent issues and implementing solutions.
7. Acting as a liaison between inventors and the Patent & Trademark Office throughout the patent application process.
8. Communicating effectively with staff, clients, and PTO personnel via face-to-face, email, and telephone interactions.
9. Organizing and prioritizing numerous tasks to meet deadlines efficiently and cost-effectively.
10. Staying updated on technology trends and making related recommendations.
11. Undertaking continuing education to maintain appropriate patent prosecution accreditation.
12. Entering, maintaining, and analyzing data for reports used by lawyers and staff.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, material science, or related medical device technology, with relevant research experience; or a Master’s or PhD in a related field. The candidate must be qualified to sit for the Patent Bar, preferably licensed to practice before the USPTO. Knowledge of patent documentation drafting, current trends, research principles, and proficiency with research resources, time management software, Outlook, Word, Excel, and prosecution docketing systems is required. Experience in patent prosecution, portfolio analysis, due diligence, or IP transactional matters, along with PTAB proceedings, is a plus.
