Job summary

Perplexity AI is seeking a highly organized IP Paralegal to drive the day-to-day operations of a growing intellectual property program. You will manage docketing, filing coordination, portfolio hygiene, and interactions with outside counsel, while supporting open source compliance and IP-diligence efforts.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of IP paralegal experience in in-house and law firm settings.
• Demonstrated AI tool fluency and curiosity about applying agentic AI in IP operations.
• Hands-on experience supporting patent and trademark prosecution workflows, including docketing and filing.
• Working knowledge of copyright administration and trade secret protection practices.
• Experience managing outside counsel relationships, including invoice review and budgets.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with inventors and external counsel.
• Discretion and sound judgment handling confidential material.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end workflows across patent and trademark portfolios, including docketing, deadline tracking, filing coordination, and status reporting.
• Support trade secret protection and open source compliance review, including licensing obligations and attorney review.
• Administer copyright matters, including filings, recordation, and portfolio upkeep.
• Own intake and triage for invention disclosures, trademark clearance requests, and other IP matters.
• Manage outside counsel relationships and billing, including budgets, accruals, and rate negotiation support.
• Run the patent rewards program and coordinate related processes.
• Prepare and file US trademark applications; coordinate foreign filings through local counsel.
• Run preliminary clearance searches for new products and features.
• Coordinate office action responses and watch notices, and recommend enforcement actions.
• Manage the domain name portfolio and brand protection initiatives.
• Conduct IP portfolio analysis to support strategy and prosecution priorities.
• Provide IP-adjacent support for commercial/litigation needs as required.
• Maintain and improve internal file management systems, trackers, and dashboards.
