Job summary

Perplexity AI seeks an organized IP Paralegal to own docketing, portfolio hygiene, and support across patent, trademark, and copyright matters in a fast-growing, in-house IP program in Washington, DC. You will collaborate with outside counsel, engineers, and cross-functional teams to manage workflows, budgets, and AI-enabled improvements, including IP diligence and compliance activities.

Qualifications

• 10+ years as an IP paralegal, with both in-house and law-firm exposure.
• Demonstrated fluency with AI tools and curiosity about applying AI to IP operations.
• Hands-on experience supporting patent and trademark prosecution workflows, including docketing and portfolio maintenance.
• Experience managing outside counsel, including invoicing, budgeting, and guidelines adherence.
• Interest in IP diligence and IP-adjacent needs such as commercial and litigation support.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end patent and trademark workflows including docketing, deadlines, filing coordination, portfolio maintenance, and reporting to stakeholders.
• Support trade secret protection and open source compliance reviews.
• Administer copyright matters including registrations and record-keeping.
• Own intake for invention disclosures and trademark clearance; coordinate with local counsel for foreign filings.
• Oversee outside counsel relationships, budgets, accruals, and billing in accordance with guidelines.
• Run the patent rewards program and provide IP diligence support as needed.
• Build and improve IP systems, workflows, and dashboards for audit-ready data.
• Leverage agentic AI tools to enhance docketing, disclosure intake, prior art gathering, and reporting.
