Job summary

Dorsey & Whitney LLP is seeking an IP Docketing Operations Lead to guide a high-performing team across multiple offices, including Salt Lake City. You will manage daily docket operations, safeguard data integrity, meet deadlines, and partner with managers to refine processes.

You will train docket professionals, implement best practices, and stay current on IP rules and international maintenance. Strong attention to detail and proactive problem-solving are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
• At least 5 years of comprehensive docketing experience.
• Experience with IP docket database software; FoundationIP strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of domestic and international IP and maintenance, including docketing systems and automated databases.
• Knowledge of USPTO systems and resources (PAIR, Patent Center, TSDR, TESS, Saegis) and international IP databases.
• Ability to train and coach others and design training materials.
• Ability to set priorities and manage competing demands.
• Strong attention to detail and professionalism.
• Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day IP docket operations and respond to inquiries from docket personnel and firm personnel.
• Ensure all deadlines related to the IP docket are met by end of each business day by communicating with client teams as needed.
• Oversee daily workflow of IP docket personnel, including training and providing feedback for evaluations.
• Collaborate with IP Docketing Manager on staffing needs and workload balance.
• Train IP docket personnel on policies, procedures and coordinate regular trainings.
• Train other firm personnel on IP docket database usage.
• Maintain and verify data integrity of the IP docket database.
• Troubleshoot docket management problems and implement solutions with vendor/IS.
• Assist with maintaining and enhancing IP docket database functionality with vendors.
• Enforce best practices, performance requirements, and risk management.
• Stay current with IP rules and country law updates impacting docketing procedures.
• Coordinate resources on client intake and transfer processes.
• Provide docket-based reports upon request.
• Respond timely to requests from IP Docketing Manager and stakeholders.
• Perform duties of IP docketing personnel as required.
• May perform other duties as needed.
