Job summary

Akerman LLP is seeking an IP Docketing Supervisor to oversee the firm’s IP docketing function for U.S. and foreign patent and trademark matters. The role blends strong docketing expertise with people leadership and operational support in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

The ideal candidate will have extensive IP docketing experience, a focus on quality and risk management, and the ability to mentor a high-performing team across multiple offices and systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
• Minimum of 5 years of IP docketing experience in U.S. and foreign patent/trademark matters in a law firm.
• 1–3 years of supervisory or training experience in IP docketing preferred.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. patent rules, PCT procedures, EPO guidelines, and foreign filing requirements.
• Hands-on experience with IP docketing systems, docket maintenance, and data integrity.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, mentor, and support IP docketing professionals and help with training and performance management.
• Coordinate team workloads to meet deadlines, service levels, and quality standards.
• Oversee docketing across U.S. and foreign patent and trademark matters (USPTO, PCT, EPO, WIPO).
• Maintain accurate docketing of filings and deadlines; resolve discrepancies and complex issues as needed.
• Act as a subject matter resource for IP management systems and promote data integrity and workflow efficiency.
• Assist with system upgrades, workflow enhancements, and SOP development.
• Support quality assurance, audits, and reporting of productivity metrics.
• Communicate docketing procedures and updates to attorneys and staff; collaborate with vendors and IT.
