Job description

*TEKsystems is seeking multiple Remote IP Core Network Engineers to provide core network monitoring and support to our Alaska-based ISP.*

*This will be a contract-to-hire engagement.*

*This resource will be 100% remote.*

Description:

Provides expertise and support of the local area IP Core Network, including complex client-server environments. Responsibilities include operational monitoring, support, analysis, systems administration, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of data communications hardware and software. Coordinates, installs, tests, upgrades, and maintains the network.

Maintains the company's systems, wireless data/IP, and core network environment by providing operational support for IP, MPLS, Carrier Ethernet, and Data/IP network systems. Provides technical support for incident resolution related to wireless telecommunication technologies, including a growing 5G network. Handles incidents from outages to intermittent issues, ensuring service quality and adherence to design criteria.

Essential Duties:

1. Project work related to platform growth and support.
2. Change management and planning.
3. Configuration and troubleshooting of Nokia, Cisco, Brocade, and Juniper IP/MPLS routers and switches.
4. Work independently or in teams, providing primary support for multiple network platforms.
5. Manage network resources and review facility utilization and performance.
6. Create and audit network and system documentation.
7. Track inventory and ensure network elements meet lifecycle expectations.
8. Perform daily operational checks and preventative maintenance.
9. Generate traffic and network performance reports; identify bottlenecks.
10. Perform system software and hardware upgrades in collaboration with Engineering.
11. Work with Engineers and business groups to resolve customer-impacting issues and ensure SLA compliance.
12. Track repair parts and materials.
13. Install, configure, and support LAN, WAN, and internet systems.
14. Monitor network availability and perform maintenance as needed.
15. Handle customer communication and Tier I/II escalation support.
16. Monitor and test site performance to ensure operational integrity.
17. Support network modeling, analysis, planning, and coordination.
18. Administer and implement network security measures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to handle moderate stress with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Experience managing large network platforms.
• Proficiency with Visio and understanding of WAN concepts.
• Experience with SNMP-based network management systems.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Experience with tools like Remedy, Metasolv, Statseeker, Cacti, Cisco Prime, and X-windows.
• Ongoing skill development to optimize network repair times and performance.

Certifications:

Industry-specific certifications are highly valued. Preferred certifications include:

• Cisco CCNA, Nokia NRS-I, or equivalent
• Cisco CCNP, Nokia NRS-II, or equivalent, SCTE DEP

Workplace Type:

This is a fully remote position.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range is $50.00 - $65.00/hr. Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life insurance, disability, HSA, transportation benefits, EAP, PTO, and more, subject to eligibility and plan specifics.
