Job summary

Lynker Technologies seeks an Ionospheric Scientist and Modeling Lead to advance ionospheric and thermosphere models for the Space Weather Prediction Center. You will develop physics-based models, coordinate across agencies, and guide model transitions from research to operations to improve forecasts for communications and navigation.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Physical Sciences, Atmospheric Science, Space Physics, Engineering or related field.
  • At least five years in research or operational forecasting.
  • Expertise in ionosphere/thermosphere modeling and scientific programming (Fortran & Python).
  • Experience leading projects, scientists, and programmers in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to transition research into operations in a mission-focused setting.

Responsibilities

  • Advance predictive models of ionosphere and atmosphere for space weather forecasting.
  • Engage with the scientific and user communities to identify innovations.
  • Assess and validate models to set SWPC priorities.
  • Guide transition of high-priority models from research to operations.
  • Pursue external capabilities to improve forecasting and communicate results through publications.
  • Manage and coordinate the ionospheric modeling group at SWPC.
