Job summary

Family Dollar seeks a skilled inventory accounting professional to ensure financial accuracy across the Retail Stock Ledger, GL, and related systems. You will analyze monthly MD and shrink trends, prepare inventory reporting, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive improvements.

The role requires 4+ years in accounting, strong Excel and SQL capabilities, and experience with Power BI/Tableau/Alteryx.

Qualifications

• BS in Accounting, Finance or related area.
• Minimum of 4 years general accounting experience.
• General knowledge of inventory transactions and how they flow through financial systems.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills both verbal and written.
• Good analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Self-starter with ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
• SQL writing experience.
• Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, or Alteryx Designer experience.

Responsibilities

• Analyze monthly MD and shrink activity to identify trends and issues.
• Research and determine appropriate inventory accounting entries for RSL, Retek, and GL.
• Perform monthly reconciliations of GL accounts and investigate variances.
• Prepare and compile monthly inventory-related financial reporting package.
• Lead recurring markdown review meetings with key business partners.
• Maintain internal controls documentation over inventory.
• Serve as primary inventory contact for auditors during reviews.
• Prepare recurring and ad hoc inventory-related journal entries.
• Assist IT initiatives related to inventory and ensure accounting considerations.
• Collaborate with merchandising, store, and DC teams to analyze inventory issues and root causes.
• Review and support the Physical Inventory process and resolve issues.
• Own budget/forecast process for shrink, markdowns, DC costs, inventory service.
