Job summary

Brigham Young University seeks an energetic Intramural Program Administrator (part-time, 28 hours/week) to lead the campus intramural officiating program within Student Wellness. You will hire, train, and evaluate student officials and oversee sport programming, scheduling, and events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Understanding of major team sport rules (e.g., Basketball, Flag Football, Soccer, Volleyball).
  • Ability to train and mentor student employees.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle angry and upset people in a professional manner.
  • Sensitivity to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to collaborate with other athletic and sport/PE entities on campus.

Responsibilities

  • Management of the Intramural Officiating Program.
  • Hires and terminates all intramural game officials.
  • Facilitates training of rules, mechanics, and technical aspects of sport officiating.
  • Promotes effective game management skills.
  • Schedules officials’ game and work assignments.
  • Conducts regular training interviews and development sessions with staff.
  • Manages program to evaluate officials.
  • Compiles reports and video segments for staff evaluations.
  • Resolves conflicts that arise.
  • Mentors student program coordinators.
  • Event publicity, programming, and evaluation.
  • Tournament scheduling and management.
  • Interviews participants and mediates sportsmanship violations.
  • Sport equipment acquisition, storage, and maintenance.
  • Administers several specific sports each semester.

The Intramural Program Administrator is primarily responsible for the intramural officiating program and provides additional support for the department’s recreational sports and activities that serve the BYU campus community. The BYU Intramural Activities Program is one of the largest of its kind.
