Job summary

University Medical Center of Southern Nevada (UMC) is seeking an experienced Radiology Technologist to assist physicians in interventional procedures and perform diagnostic exams in the interventional radiology suite.

The role requires ARRT radiography registration or RCIS/RCES certification, with preferred experience in a cardiac cath lab. On‑site IR lab duties and patient safety are essential in this fast-paced clinical environment.

Qualifications

  • ARRT Radiography registration or RCIS/RCES credentials.
  • Two years of cardiac cath lab experience is preferred for RCIS candidates.
  • Knowledge of IR procedures and patient care in a cath lab setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians in interventional procedures and diagnostic imaging.
  • Perform diagnostic radiology exams in the interventional radiology suite.
  • Maintain sterile technique and operate radiologic equipment according to safety protocols.

Position Summary

Assists physicians in interventional procedures and provides diagnostic aid. Performs diagnostic exams on patients in the specialized areas of interventional radiology. Assists with diagnostic angiography, neuro‑interventional, and other invasive procedures.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is a stand‑alone classification. The incumbent in this class is on‑call based on the 24‑hour hospital’s business needs.

Job Requirements

Education/Experience: Successful completion of an AMA approved Radiologic Technology Program for Radiology Technologists (ARRT) Registered in Radiography. OR Graduate from an accredited registered cardiovascular invasive specialist program and two (2) years of experience in a cardiac Cath lab for RCIS‑certified individuals.

Licensing/Certification Requirements
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accepted by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • For those assigned in Special Procedure/Interventional Radiology Lab – State of Nevada License in Radiology and valid American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) Registered in Radiography.
  • For those assigned in Cardiac Cath Lab – State of Nevada License in Radiology and Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist or RCES from Cardiovascular Credentialing International or ARRT.
Additional Position Requirements

Preferences will be given to applicants who document the following:

Procedures and protocols associated with radiation; specialized equipment used in interventional cases; anatomy and physiology of the human body; contrast application and contrast reaction symptoms; venipuncture techniques; quality assurance and quality control measures; neuro‑body disease; aseptic techniques and sterile field setup; vascular anatomy, pressures; catheter curves; rated burst pressures and compliance; personal computers; department and hospital safety practices and principles; patient rights; age‑specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.

Skill In

Utilizing computers and specialized application software for scanning and diagnostic evaluation; utilizing specialized equipment and techniques for diagnostic evaluation; applying aseptic techniques; positioning patients properly to maximize results; instructing patients about procedures and post‑procedure rules and guidelines; performing interventional procedures; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio‑economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment, stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time, vision to read printed materials and computer screens, hearing and speech to communicate effectively in‑person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
