Job description

Overview

The Interpreter will provide interpretation services within the State of California to assist individuals with language barriers. Interpretation may include, but is not limited to, education, legal, medical, environmental, and social services.

This position performs all duties in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Cayuse.

Responsibilities

• Accurately interpret spoken language in various settings such as lectures, conversations, and meetings.
• Utilize technology to transcribe spoken English in some scenarios.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications – Here’s What You Need:

• High School diploma or BA degree, or equivalent experience. Certifications such as MISS, FSI, Legal translation online certifications, Certified Translation Professional (CTP), OHA, Oregon HIC are preferred.
• Experience with the State Department, refugees, FDA, Health & Human Services, medical, legal, housing authority, etc.
• Ability to pass a background check; additional checks may be required.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to respond effectively to customers with a sense of urgency.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Acrobat, etc.).
• Highly motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to build relationships and work independently or as part of a team.

Reporting and Working Conditions

Reports to: Deputy Program Manager

Working Conditions:

• Professional environment.
• Must be on-call and available within 48 hours for potential jobs.
• Travel to different locations for in-person interpretation.
• Physically and mentally capable of performing duties for extended periods.
• Proficient in computer and office tools.
• Ability to establish a productive workspace.
• Sit for long periods, possibly working outside regular hours or on holidays.
