Job summary

AFSCME Local 449 in Tucson, AZ is seeking a Union Organizer to strengthen and grow our internal membership. This full-time role focuses on internal organizing campaigns, building relationships with workers, assessing worksites, and developing worker leaders to drive collective action.

Responsibilities include one-on-one conversations, campaign planning, and data entry, with travel to multiple worksites in the Tucson area. Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One to three years of union organizing experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills.
• Basic knowledge of labor laws related to union organizing.

Responsibilities

• Conduct one-on-one organizing conversations, including worksite and home visits.
• Build and maintain worker lists and mapping worksites.
• Recruit, developing, and sustaining organizing committee members and activists.
• Identify issues and mobilize workers to take collective action.
• Support campaign planning and execution.
• Sign up new members and increase union membership density.
• Enter assessments and organizing data into databases regularly.
• Travel to multiple worksites throughout Tucson and accept temporary assignments as required.
