Job summary

The Office of Inspector General for the State of Illinois seeks an Internal Security Investigator II in Springfield. You will travel to conduct confidential investigations into abuse, neglect and serious injuries at state facilities and agencies, and prepare detailed reports with findings, evidence, and corrective actions.

You will maintain confidential files, suggest procedural improvements, and may testify in hearings.

Qualifications

• Two years of college with relevant coursework plus four years in law enforcement investigatory work.
• Four years of college with major coursework plus two years in law enforcement investigatory work.
• Master's degree with related law/government/public administration plus one year investigative experience.
• F.B.I. National Academy or comparable law enforcement schooling plus two years investigative experience.

Responsibilities

• Travels to conduct confidential, sensitive, complex investigations of abuses and injuries at state facilities and agencies.
• Prepares written reports with findings, evidence, and recommendations for service plan referrals or case closures.

Position Overview

The Office of Inspector General is seeking to hire an Internal Security Investigator II at the Bureau of Investigations center located in Springfield, Illinois. The Internal Security Investigator II will travel to conduct confidential, sensitive, and complex investigations concerning reports of abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, deaths, or serious injuries at state operated facilities and community agencies. Prepares written investigative reports upon the completion of the investigative process consisting of a summary of actions taken, findings, preservation of evidence and recommendations for corrective action and/or case closure. Maintains confidential files pertaining to intakes under investigation. Recommends revisions in investigatory procedures and practices and serves as an expert witness and gives testimony in criminal and administrative hearings related to the conduct of or results of the investigation.

Essential Functions

• Travels to conduct confidential, sensitive, and complex investigations concerning reports of abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, death, serious injuries of persons with disabilities at state operated facilities and community agencies.
• Prepares written investigative reports upon the completion of the investigative process consisting of a summary of actions taken, findings, preservation of evidence and recommendation for service plan referral and/or case closure.

• Serves as an expert witness and gives testimony in criminal and administrative hearings related to the conducting of or results of the investigation.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college, with coursework in law, government, liberal arts, history or business or public administration, plus four (4) years professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work OR requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with major coursework in law, government, liberal arts, history or business or public administration, plus two (2) years professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work OR requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of a master's degree, with major course work in law, government, liberal arts, history or business or public administration plus one (1)-year professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work OR requires completion of the F.B.I. National Academy or comparable law enforcement schooling, plus two (2) years of professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Three (3) years of professional experience utilizing modern law enforcement investigatory techniques and concepts.
• Three (3) years of professional experience recognizing and gathering appropriate statements, exhibits and materials acceptable for use in prosecution of cases of disciplinary action.
• Two (2) years of professional experience preparing case reports for referral to prosecuting agency.
• Two (2) years of professional experience maintaining security during investigatory activities.
• Two (2) years of professional experience working with statutes, rules and regulations concerning misconduct.
• Two (2) years of professional experience working with the functions and interrelationships of government agencies.

Conditions of Employment

• Requires the ability to travel in performance of job duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
