Job summary

Premier Swim Academy - Diamond Bar is seeking a Deck Lead to support the daily operations, safety, and flow on the pool deck. You will help instructors, coordinate with families and staff, and uphold PSA standards across shifts.

This role requires hands-on coaching, in-water assistance when needed, and strong hazard prevention. PSA certifications are required or obtainable, with prior deck/instruction support preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 months experience as Swim Instructor or Deck Support.
  • Strong understanding of PSA lesson structure, advancement, and safety procedures.
  • Identify hazards proactively and take corrective action.
  • Confident communication with parents, instructors, and admins.
  • Lead by example and provide on‑the‑spot coaching.
  • In‑water work experience during lessons.
  • Stand/walk on pool deck for extended periods in warm, humid environments.
  • Reliable shift availability and occasional sub coverage.
  • Hold or obtain PSA certifications (First Aid/CPR, WSI, or internal training).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a constant pool deck presence for safety and instructor support.
  • Communicate start and end times, monitor pacing and flow.
  • Review schedules in Jackrabbit and Evolia; address issues.
  • Verify instructors/classes are assigned to the correct bins.
  • Conduct facility walk‑throughs and identify hazards.
  • Monitor pool chemistry and controller readings.
  • Manage swimmer traffic to maintain class flow and safety.
  • Guide viewing room guests and inform them where to go.
  • Bridge communication between parents and instructors.
  • Notify parents/admins of student level changes and schedule updates.
  • Support advancement evaluations and processes.
  • Lead opening/closing duties and delegate tasks.
  • Assist with lessons when needed, including water entry.
  • Coach staff and follow up on interactions.
  • Complete shift reports and document interactions in OneTeam360.
  • Ensure closing procedures and security are performed.

Summary

The Deck Lead supports the daily operational success of the swim school by maintaining flow, safety, and consistency throughout each shift. This role ensures that swimmers, families, and instructors have a positive experience and that all staff maintain high standards of safety, communication, and program execution. The Deck Lead serves as the primary on-deck support for instructors and as a liaison between parents, instructors, and administrative staff.

Essential Duties
  • Maintain a constant presence on the pool deck to ensure safety, consistency, and support for instructors.
  • Communicate lesson start and end times to instructors; monitor pacing and schedule flow.
  • Review daily schedules in Jackrabbit and Evolia and proactively address any issues.
  • Confirm instructors and classes are assigned to the correct bin colors.
  • Conduct full facility walk-throughs throughout the shift to identify and eliminate hazards.
  • Verify pool chemistry levels and monitor chemical controller readings.
  • Manage swimmer traffic entering and exiting the pool to maintain class flow and safety.
  • Guide viewing room guests on where to go, when to head to the pool deck, and what to expect.
  • Serve as the communication bridge between parents and instructors, minimizing unnecessary deck traffic.
  • Communicate student level changes, schedule adjustments, and instructor feedback to parents and admins.
  • Check on students listed for advancement evaluations and support the advancement process.
  • Lead and delegate cleaning, opening, and closing duties (tarps, hose, walk-throughs, etc.).
  • Assist with lessons as needed, including entering the water during call-outs or safety needs.
  • Coach staff during the shift and follow up with team members based on observed interactions.
  • Complete required shift reporting and document all significant interactions in OneTeam360.
  • Ensure closing procedures and facility security are completed at the end of the shift.
Minimum
  • Must be an internal Premier Swim Academy team member in good standing.
  • Minimum 3 months of experience as a Swim Instructor or Deck Support role (or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of PSA lesson structure, advancement process, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to proactively identify hazards and take corrective action.
  • Confident communication skills with parents, instructors, and admins.
  • Ability to lead by example and provide on-the-spot coaching.
  • Comfortable performing in‑water work, including assisting with lessons.
  • Ability to stand/walk on the pool deck for extended periods in a warm and humid environment.
  • Availability to reliably cover scheduled shifts and occasional sub needs.
  • Must hold or obtain required certifications based on PSA standards (e.g., First Aid/CPR, WSI, or internal instructor training).
Physical Demands

While performing this role, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, crouch, communicate clearly, and maintain awareness of the surrounding environment. Regular use of hands for reaching and typing is required. The employee must be able to swim, teach an average of 10 hours per week, and demonstrate swim instruction skills. Lifting or assisting children up to 50 pounds may be required. The employee must be able to enter the water quickly in an emergency or if needed for lessons.

Environmental Conditions

The work environment involves warm, humid conditions around the pool with moderate to loud noise levels. All staff must follow required safety precautions to ensure a safe environment for swimmers and coworkers.
