Job summary

PetVet Care Centers' Carolina Veterinary Specialists – Matthews in Matthews, North Carolina, seeks an Internal Medicine Veterinary Assistant to join our busy Internal Medicine department. This position offers a 4-day work week with occasional rotating weekend on-call.

The successful candidate will have at least 1 year of experience as a veterinary assistant/technician or be a recent AVMA-accredited program graduate, with strong technical skills in venipuncture, anesthesia, and diagnostics to

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience as veterinary assistant/technician or recent AVMA-accredited program graduate.
• Age 18+.
• Strong technical skills including venipuncture, catheter placement, laboratory, anesthesia and pharmacology.
• Knowledge of normal patient parameters (cat/dog).
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good organizational and multi-tasking skills.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate daily appointment flow.
• Assist with diagnostics including radiography, CT, ECG, labs, ultrasound and endoscopy as needed.
• Administer chemotherapeutic agents and other medications.
• Perform anesthesia induction, monitoring and recovery.
• Maintain hospitalized patient orders and monitor patient status.
• Communicate with clients for history, discharge instructions and follow-ups.
