Job summary

Austin Community College is seeking an Intern, Digital (Hourly) to support Housing Authority residents by increasing access to technology, refurbishing devices, and providing IT support under supervision. This is an ACC student internship aligned with ITSC-2264 practicum.

The role requires currently enrolled IT/Cybersecurity or CS/Software Development students in ITSC-2264 and is performed onsite at the Austin Housing Authority locations, with up to 19 hours per week at a pay rate of $23.00 per

Qualifications

  • IT/CS student enrolled for ITSC-2264, pursuing cybersecurity or computer science/software development.
  • Proficiency with standard office software and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with Housing Authority residents and coordinate technology access.

Responsibilities

  • This internship provides hands-on experience in IT while serving the community.
  • Assist residents to gain access to free/low-cost high-speed internet in collaboration with Google Fiber.
  • Secure, refurbish, and reimage donated devices and deploy them to residents.
  • Provide in-person and phone IT support, including help with RentCaf and digital literacy outreach.
  • Support on-site technology access initiatives and host office hours.
  • Help strengthen device/network security and educate residents on cybersecurity basics.
  • Assist with additional technology access initiatives as needed.

Job Description Summary

This position is available only to ACC students enrolled in the ITSC 2264 practicum course. With supervision, will perform general administrative duties and/or research functions for the purpose of developing a working knowledge of a specific area of study.

Description of Duties and Tasks
  • This paid internship provides hands‑on experience in the field of information technology while making a meaningful impact in the community. Interns support Housing Authority residents by increasing access to technology, improving digital literacy, and enhancing access to critical housing services.
  • Connect residents to free and low-cost high‑speed internet in collaboration with Google Fiber
  • Secure, refurbish, and reimage donated electronic devices
  • Deploy refurbished devices to residents and maintain device inventory
  • Provide in‑person and phone‑based IT support, including assistance with RentCaf
  • Support digital literacy outreach events and host on‑site office hours
  • Strengthen device and network security, and educate residents on basic cybersecurity practices
  • Assist with additional technology access initiatives as needed

  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.
  • Work will be completed in person, primarily onsite at the Austin Housing Authority's 1124 S I-35 location, with occasional work at other Housing Authority sites.
Safety
  • Work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.

$23.00/Hour
