Job summary

Michigan Paving and Materials, a CRH company, invites applications for an Accounting & Finance Intern to gain practical experience across accounting, finance, and business operations in a construction materials setting.

As part of the internship, you will participate in daily accounting activities, job costing reviews, and month-end close processes while collaborating with professionals. This role requires pursuing an relevant degree and reporting to the Canton office at least one day per week.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Willingness to report to the Canton office at least one day per week.

Position Summary

The Accounting & Finance Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting the financial operations of a vertically integrated construction and materials organization. This internship provides exposure to a variety of accounting, finance, and business functions while working alongside experienced professionals across multiple departments.

The internship is designed to help students apply classroom knowledge in a real-world business environment while developing technical, analytical, and professional skills that support future careers in accounting, finance, and business operations.

What You'll Learn

Accounting Operations

• Assist with daily accounting activities and financial processes.
• Support job costing reviews and gain an understanding of project-based accounting.
• Participate in month-end close activities, reconciliations, and financial reporting processes.
• Help maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
• Learn how accounting functions support overall business performance.

Financial Analysis & Business Exposure

• Attend business planning and projection meetings to gain insight into company operations.
• Develop an understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance measurement.
• Learn how operational decisions impact financial results.
• Gain exposure to key financial metrics used to manage the business.

Administrative & Team Support

• Assist with managing the Accounting department's shared Outlook mailbox and related communications.
• Support accounting team members with data entry, file maintenance, and special projects.
• Work collaboratively with staff to identify and solve routine business and accounting issues.
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives and other department projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Currently pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.

Work Environment

This position is primarily performed in an office environment with occasional visits to construction, plant, or operational facilities.

Interns Should Expect To

• Work in a professional office setting.
• Collaborate regularly with accounting, finance, and operations personnel.
• Occasionally visit active operations where exposure to noise, dust, moving equipment, and varying weather conditions may occur.
• Follow all required safety policies and procedures when visiting operational sites.
