Integrates specialized functions across multiple engineering disciplines, utilizing knowledge gained in the following core competencies: Neutron & Reactor Core Physics: Analyzing core behavior and reactor physics. Nuclear Safety & Analysis: Leading nuclear safety-related analyses and nuclear criticality safety assessments. Design & Shielding: Developing radiation shielding designs and managing fuel cycle operations. Logistics & Compliance: Overseeing radioactive material transportation and enforcing software quality assurance (SQA) standards. Software: Proficient with Attila4MC, MCNP, SCALE, and/or Serpent codes and modules Regulatory Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of US and international nuclear regulatory frameworks, including NRC regulations (e.g., 10 CFR Parts 50, 70, or 71), DOE orders , and IAEA safety standards and guides.

Key Responsibilities
  • Specific responsibilities may require the candidate to:
  • Nuclear Safety & Licensing Strategy.
    • Lead and coordinate technical work supporting US nuclear safety licensing activities.
    • Author, review, and approve technical documentation, including various nuclear safety analyses and evaluation reports.
    • Support licensing initiatives by assisting with the preparation of safety basis documents.
    • Participate actively in hazard analyses, process design reviews, and configuration management activities.
  • Criticality Safety & Advanced Reactor Systems:
    • Lead, execute, and approve Nuclear Criticality Safety Evaluations (NCSEs) and Nuclear Criticality Safety Analyses (NCSAs) for fuel fabrication, handling, storage, and transportation processes.
    • Establish and validate criticality safety limits and engineered/administrative controls (mass, moderation, geometry, reflection, enrichment, and interaction) specifically for small modular reactor systems.
    • Advance the development and maintenance of the Criticality Safety Program in strict alignment with ANSI/ANS-8 standards and applicable NRC/DOE regulations.
  • Neutronics, Shielding & Software Quality Assurance (SQA):
    • Apply validated neutronics methodologies and Monte Carlo codes (e.g., MCNP, SCALE/KENO ) to develop or assess margins to criticality, bias, and uncertainty.
    • Lead, perform, and approve radiation shielding designs and radiation-transport analyses for fuel fabrication, handling, storage, and transportation.
    • Analyze and interpret radiation data to ensure operational safety, shielding effectiveness, and total regulatory compliance.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
About you

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering or a closely related discipline. Master's or Ph.D. preferred. Requires 3 years of relevant experience with Bachelor's degree. Experience in nuclear industry preferred.

Desired Skills:
  • Technical Competencies- Advanced Reactor & SMR Design: Direct experience modeling or licensing Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) or advanced fuel systems (such as HALEU or TRISO fuel cycles).
  • Software Quality Assurance (SQA): Experience managing code verification, validation, and benchmarking under a formal ASME NQA-1 or equivalent nuclear quality assurance program.
